At the Table
I am always a firm believer in the importance of a kitchen table. Some people use it as an office or work space, an eating and play space, but above all it is truly a family place.
I often read food magazines and a certain article in November's Waitrose magazine caught my eye, specifically focusing on the table as told by author and food personality, Nigella Lawson. You can check out the article here, but one of the 'yes moments' for me was how she put meaning behind the ordinary. 'A table is more than a piece of furniture, just as food is more than fuel.' She goes on to say that the kitchen table is where our memories are made and why it is so important to use it as a catalyst for such a thing as this. We may well use the table for a multitude of activities, but what is important is that it is used and shared and with people around it.
Nigella used a quote by Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher, an American food writer, that I want to include here. Hopefully it will resonate with many of you, especially during this Christmas season.
"It seems to me that our three basic needs, for food and security and love, are so mixed and mingled and entwined that we cannot straightly think of one without the others." MFK Fisher
Perhaps your table is more a showpiece nowadays, waiting for dinner guests, to be useful and loved again. We would like to inspire you to share your table with someone, and if you already are we salute you! During this holiday season we hope your table is full of food and surrounded by people. May it be a place you remember and cherish year-round.
Gather round, live and love, share and cook amazing food and keep those memories coming and going.
Merry Christmas from Kindred Suppers. xoxo
