Kindred Suppers Launch
I had the privilege this week of hosting and cooking for our launch party - a celebration of starting my business and creating a menu based on what our guests loved from our supper clubs so far. I wanted it to be not only a celebration of new horizons but of all the wonderful people who help make Kindred Suppers possible.
Chicken with Lemon and Cinnamon
Cabbage with Dill and Bacon
Cumin Babkas & Red Pepper
Mashed Sweet Potato
Carrot, Beetroot and Apple Salad
Cherry Amaretti Cake
When I started this business, I didn't know who would come through the door or how successful the idea would be. A lot of people say I am very brave for inviting strange guests into my home for dinner, and in some ways they're right, but what I love most is that I am sharing what I love. I do it all the time with friends and family, so why end there?
Our gathering was small, but every bit as lively. I love when the dynamics around the table work and you get an incredible sense that what you have created has made a meaningful impression on everyone else. We at together and, what is more, these people chose to come.
We had a great time, exchanging stories, laughter and, of course, amazing food. It's the best feeling to engage around one table, and the only agenda is in sharing life and eating together.
As with most of my cooking, my inspiration comes from a fusion of countries and flavours. I love it when people ask about the dish, and especially about what is in it. I think one of my favourite compliments of the night from one of our guests was that everything was 'health conscious and so colourful'. Since my goal is to inspire people to eat well that made my night!
The concept behind my events is to evoke change in how we view eating. There are too many instances in the modern world where we eat alone or on the go. There is no set 'meal time' and often we're filling ourselves with food that isn't very nourishing. It's nice in my mind to enable a place where people can go and eat together. I don't want to just be viewed as a 'pop up restaurant', but an inspiration for others to grasp the idea of eating more home cooked meals, more healthy options and to do it with people. Or launch was to thank the people who have eaten with us and to continue the journey of cooking for others and seeing them light up when they've tasted something that is nourishing and delicious.
“If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.” Cesar Chavez
Now that we've launched, we'd love to get more people involved in the concept and to come be part of our events! Are you a food lover or want to be inspired by healthy food that tastes amazing? Willing to try sitting next to someone you might not know? We're waiting for you with open arms and ever so ready to share some great food. You can view more of our events here.
